WHAT IS "THE SWING RUEDA CONGRESS"? Swing Rueda is the
Lindy Hop version of Casino (Salsa) Rueda, which is a type of Salsa
dancing done with partners in a circle where the moves are determined
by a caller (for more info check out http://www.salsapower.com/editorials/casino.htm).
Many of the moves change partners so that you are dancing with everyone
in the circle. Swing Rueda was adapted by Jeff Miller and Elaine Hewlett
(www.swingrueda.com) from Dallas Texas, using established swing moves
such as Swingout, Texas Tommy and Mini Dip and adding swingified versions
of Casino moves such as Dame, Enchufle, and Coca Cola. Needless to say,
Swing Rueda is a lot of fun, and can be as simple or as complex as you
want to make it. |

The purpose of the Swing Rueda congress is to allow groups from all over the U.S.to push the boundaries of Swing Rueda by performing routines that are based on the basic Rueda framework and then fostering an exchange of some of the new steps that each group has made. Jeff and Elaine will be on hand to teach basic Rueda in addition to some of their favorite variations. So far we have groups coming from NYC, Florida, Texas, and San Francisco. If you would like to bring in a group from your area, please email Sharon for more details. The routines will be performed during the band breaks on Friday night. |
